In Memory of John O'Connell

It is with great sadness we announce the passing of John O’Connell (51) at his home in the early hours of Tuesday, Aug 3rd. Preceded in death by his father John, he is survived by his mom Mary Ellen, sisters Debbie Jeska (Brad), Teresa, Sue Swenberger (Mark), nieces, nephews and countless friends that he made over his lifetime. John was a proud graduate of Harding High School. After graduating, he worked for Clear Channel radio, the MN Timberwolves, Mystic Lake Casino and at other local restaurants and bars in marketing and communications. John was proud of his connection to Harding and continued to lead their annual golf fundraising event adding to a lifetime of volunteerism and community work with many organizations. He was a coach for many youth teams and was an active member of the board of directors of SAVE.org. John loved mentoring, helping people and serving others. He had a huge heart and love for his Irish heritage that often included music, sports and a good cocktail nearby (not necessarily in that order). John cherished his days at the radio station and the people he worked with who became like family to him. He lived every day to the fullest and wanted everyone around him to be happy as he tried to bring a smile or helping hand to all those he met. John will always be remembered for how deeply he impacted many lives, but sadly felt like his time here was complete. Visitation Tuesday, 8/10 at 1:00 pm with a Mass immediately following at 2:00 pm at the Church of the Assumption in St. Paul. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made by clicking here to help John’s family with expenses.
