LGBTQ people have to deal with additional challenges – such as discrimination, harassment, violence, rejection, and lack of equal protections under the law – which contribute to increased development of depression, anxiety, alcohol and drug problems, and many more difficulties. With these extra obstacles, it is not hard to see why attempted suicide rates in the LGBTQ community are significantly higher. It does not have to be this way.
